Funny that when you say that we are living a moral crisis people think you are talking about religion, sex, etc. What I think is that we are indeed living a moral crises but the main problem is the destruction of the culture that valued rationality of human beings. Here is an example:
“They are angry because for years they have been encouraged to live beyond their means, taking advantage of the cheap credit on offer since Greece joined the euro in 2001. Now, the rug is being pulled from under their feet. People who have taken out mortgages to buy homes, loans to purchase cars and credit cards to pay for overpriced basic goods are being asked to meet all these commitments with a much lower income than they had budgeted for.”
This is MSNBC explaining why people in Greece are mad. Oh, they also say Greeks think that “for years politicians have been bleeding the country dry, looking after themselves and their friends and failing to build a robust economy and a country equipped to deal with the challenges of the 21st century.”
So basically, you have a whole country saying that this whole crisis is not their fault. It is somebody else’s fault because a) they were tricked(!) in getting loans they couldn’t afford, and b) because the people they elected time after time (the Panhellenic Socialist Movement has governed the country for the large majority of time since 1981) were a bunch of corrupt liars.
The fact that these people truly don’t understand this is all their fault is the real root of the problem. It is the main reason why people continued to support this system that created a humongous government class which progressively destroyed the productive forces until the whole thing exploded. Even now, they don’t understand why such a system can never work, and that is why they are ‘revolting’.
Honestly, I think this huge overreaction over this Greek crisis is a great thing. We are seeing just how destructive this kind of socialist insanity can be for the whole world. Greece is a tiny, tiny economy and so we can only imagine what would happen if an important player went through something similar.
It is time for people all over the world to wake up and understand that government is not always part of the solution, but it is always part of the problem. Furthermore, this could be the wake up call to the old concept that living out of other people’s effort and/or beyond your means is immoral and it ultimately leads to the destruction of any society.
Let’s hope people wake up.
