If the lottery is the tax on idiots, Las Vegas is their Washington DC.
I am spending this week here in the Sin City and I got to tell you, I feel like an alien. Semi-naked cocktail waiters, the zombie like motion of old people (lots of Mexican and Asian) pushing their slot machine levers, the crazy celebrations at craps, the war like atmosphere of poker tables (don’t touch your card with both hands!).
I can almost understand why people would do this once. It’s fun to play games, no matter how stupid they are. But I have the sense that people here don’t even understand anymore that these are only games. They truly believe they are getting rich, or at least making money.
Oh, and have I mentioned that all smokers of the world are now living inside a Vegas casino? They think it’s the 80s or something.
On the other hand, outside of the casinos the city is very pretty. The neon lights, the shows, fancy shops, beautiful hotels (much cheaper than in other similar places) and so on. Just remember to keep your wallet close to your chest.
It was 12 years ago since I came here last. I remember that back then I enjoyed the place. Maybe I am just getting grumpy and old but I think it might take another 12 years for me to be back…
