Here he is! A Bag of Laughs!
Lefties are usually a funny bunch.
They love to yell, scream and “organize” against whatever is that they think is wrong with the world. Most of the time they don’t even know what they want, but screaming is a way of life for them.
Now that we have their own Jesus in the White House, they are eerily quiet. It’s their own version of religious belief and respect. However, the other side now feels like making some noise. You would think that the lefties would be all happy for getting the right to behave like them, but that’s not quite happening. Apparently, you can destroy buildings and attack the police while you are yelling who knows what, but you can never have a gun permit and hold up a sign at the same time. That is just way too dangerous! Oh, and they think these people are also sponsored by some hidden conspiracy! Good times.
I think that reality usually finds a way. Initially I was upset when I noticed that Golden Boy was taking over the title of “mental leader” of our loony friends – a position that was previously occupied by the Fat Clown, and also by the World Savior. Now I think his pessimism is starting to piss off many people, including his own lefty comrades.
You see, Golden Boy is an especially annoying kind of lefty. He is what I call a dystopic. That is, he lives in a different reality, where everything is horrible and ultimately hopeless. Differently than his brethren, who are usually utopic lefties, Golden Boy doesn’t really think lefty policies will be that helpful. He just thinks we will have a smaller disaster. (Funny note: check out his discussion about “the future” with Charlie Stross. GB spends 99% of the time complaining on how today’s reality is not as good as the idealized future and trying to put down Stross’ ideas. The guy is a beacon of light!)
We could talk about his ideas on the current downturn but that is too obvious. Look at his little piece on Health reform. Most important, look at this part:
“If we were starting from scratch we probably wouldn’t have chosen this route. True “socialized medicine” would undoubtedly cost less, and a straightforward extension of Medicare-type coverage to all Americans would probably be cheaper than a Swiss-style system. That’s why I and others believe that a true public option competing with private insurers is extremely important: otherwise, rising costs could all too easily undermine the whole effort.”
So you see, even if Obama has his way there is no guarantee that we will be fine. The whole thing is of course a big contradiction, since the basis of his article was that Americans are stupid for not wanting to be like the Swiss… but then at the end he says that being like the Swiss might not be that good anyway.
It is ironic that we have now in the White House a President that based his whole image on the word Hope, and at the same time we have Golden Boy as his intellectual media representative. I mean, you can call Obama many things (and he probably deserves most) but if there is one thing he is not is a pessimist.
That is why my default response to anyone who asks me “How is Obama doing in you opinion?” question is: It could be worse.
