Most of the times my discussions with liberals can be summed up in one question: Are we rational or not?
I say yes, they say no. Of course, they never really say no. They say “it depends” as in, when I vote for Democrats I am totally rational but when I get a mortgage that is too expensive I am not.
The Katrina disaster is just another perfect example. It all starts with simple facts: Thousands of people have not yet recovered from the storm. My first question is: why? Well, they don’t have a home anymore. To which I ask: What happened to their insurance?
And it is right then that liberals simply go nuts. What do you mean? They don’t have insurance! It’s too expensive! Are you saying they are all lazy/crazy people who chose not to get insurance? Aren’t they allowed to buy a home? Do you want to leave those people living in trailers forever? Stop spending billions in Iraq you fascist!
So are we rational or not?
Can we be trusted with taking care of our lives or should the government do it for us? Are we free to choose what mortgage or insurance we can get? Are we allowed to buy a home and use the insurance money to go to football games? If a storm is coming and I decide to ride it out, should the government force me to leave? Should we force the people who are not returning to New Orleans to do so?
Am I really a cold bastard just because I want to understand exactly why and how my tax dollars are used for?
