Report: Congo’s War and Aftermath Have Killed 5.4 Million

“The report is the latest of several detailed surveys by the humanitarian aid group showing that since the outbreak of war in 1998, Congo has experienced one of the world’s deadliest crises. The group estimates that the conflict and its aftermath have led to the deaths of 5.4 million people, more than 8 percent of the country’s population of 66 million.”

So a question to my lib bleeding heart friends is: Is this ok?

We had no US intervention there. We had no bombers, no oil interests, nothing. Still, Iraq dwarfs in every possible aspect when compared to this.

Would libs say that they wish Americans had intervened? Why is the press so quiet around this when compared to Iraq? Why do we have so many polls, research papers and headlines about Iraq and so few about this?

This is the kind of hypocrisy that sickens me.

KHARTOUM, Nov 26 (Reuters)A British primary school teacher has been arrested in Sudan, accused of insulting Islam’s Prophet by letting her class of 7-year-olds name a teddy bear Mohammed, her school said on Monday.Colleagues of Gillian Gibbons, aged 54 from Liverpool, told Reuters they feared for her safety after receiving reports that young men had already started gathering outside the Khartoum police station where she was being held.”But don’t forget folks: there are no superior cultures. Things are not better or worse – just different.

Somalis drag Ethiopian soldier’s body through streets of Mogadishu

Bodies dragged through Mogadishu

“The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia, Eric Laroche, told parliament in Baidoa that 1.5 million Somalis were in need of emergency aid, the Reuters news agency reports. “We have to be able to help them – and we have a problem reaching them,” Mr Laroche was reported as saying.”

Somalia: The Biggest Exodus in the Recent Days Seen Today in Mogadishu City

What is the worst place in the world to be a reporter? North Korea? Sudan? Iran? Iraq?

No. Welcome to Eritrea.

This is not the only problem with Eritrea, of course. They also help terrorists in the region, expel their jews, the usual stuff, right?

What is the UN doing? What is the rest of the world doing about it? Nothing.

But wait, we should be happy! This is a country in peace now, with no foreign occupier, no capitalist lords exploiting the poor people and their needs!

No need to talk about violence, that is never the answer. How about sending a little help for those poor people uh?

Hypocrisy is one of the most useful tools for peace.

White farmers in court for growing crops

“Ten white farmers appeared in court in Zimbabwe yesterday accused of growing crops on their land — in a country where millions of people will need food aid within the next few months. The case in Chegutu district, 70 miles southwest of Harare, exposes the perversity of President Robert Mugabe’s policies. Commerical agriculture was the mainstay of the economy in the days when Zimbabwe was a food exporter.

Since 2000, when the government began seizing white-owned farms, many of them violently, the agricultural sector has collapsed and the economy has gone into freefall, with inflation now at 6,600 per cent, the highest in the world.”

Can you imagine that this is going on in the same world you and me live?

I know I sound like a broken record but where are all the humanists and peace activists when we really need them?

How about all the black leaders here in the US? Shouldn’t they be at least publicly condemning Mugabe’s racial stupidity?

Here he comes again, Top Jimmy goes to Darfur and…

“Carter said Washington’s use of the term genocide to describe the situation in Darfur, where international estimates say 200,000 people have died and 2.5 million driven from their homes, was unhelpful.“There is a legal definition of genocide and Darfur does not meet that legal standard. The atrocities were horrible but I don’t think it qualifies to be called genocide,” he said.Washington is almost alone in branding the 4 1/2 years of violence in Darfur genocide. Khartoum rejects the term, European governments are reluctant to use it and a U.N.-appointed commission of inquiry found no genocide, but that some individuals may have acted with genocidel intent.”

Here is the definition of genocide:
the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group

Oh please, they only had “genocidel intent (sic)”… After all, 200 thousand people is cheap change for those guys! Let’s be careful and not piss these beacons of freedom off!

Good Ol’ Jimmy never changes. Always on the side of peace… with dictators.

Sudan Rebels Kill 10 Darfur Peacekeepers

“HASKANITA, Sudan, Sept. 30 — Rebel forces stormed a small African Union base in northern Darfur and killed at least 10 peacekeepers, leaving behind charred armored vehicles and bombed-out barracks in an unprecedented attack on the beleaguered mission. More than 30 peacekeepers were still missing by late Sunday, indicating the death toll from the attack could rise significantly.

About 1,000 rebels from the Sudan Liberation Army attacked the base outside the town of Haskanita Saturday after sunset, when Muslims break their daytime fast for the holy month of Ramadan, A.U. officers said. The rebels eventually stormed the base early Sunday, they said.”

So… Where is the whole “world community” to decry this? Where are all the bleeding heart liberals who say all we need to stop the slaughter is a few soldiers?

Sometimes the “police of the world” is really the only solution. Too bad the world is more interested in criticizing and grand standing than actually helping.

Advertising Age reports that around $100 million has been spent on the Red campaign blanketing billboards and magazines with images of Bono and other “celebrities”, while the total sum raised for Africa is $18 million.

Just to be clear…

Total spent on making Bono more famous = $100 million
Total spent on drugs for Africans = $18 million
