It took a while but finally someone has written a “fear McCain” article.
An incredibly stupid article but nonetheless a typical one (you see Obama, I know how to use that word too)
First, the author is incredibly naïve. He says things like “Mr McCain’s promises, during last week’s visit to London, to listen more to America’s European allies, need to be taken with a giant pinch of salt. There is, in fact, no evidence that he would be prepared to alter any important US policy at Europe’s request.”
Really? Are you saying McCain would think about the US first and not Europe? Shocking!
But worst of all, he is a complete ignorant of our history. Check out this part:
“Mr McCain exemplifies “Jacksonian nationalism” – after Andrew Jackson, the 19th-century Indian-fighter and president – and the Scots-Irish military tradition from which both men sprung. As Mr McCain’s superb courage in North Vietnamese captivity and his honourable opposition to torture by US forces demonstrate, he also possesses the virtues of that tradition. Then again, some of the greatest catastrophes of the 20th century were caused by brave, honourable men with a passionate sense of national mission.”
I wonder what Mr. Lieven thinks Churchill, FDR and others that resisted the Nazis were inspired by. Did they fight for an “international” mission? Of course, Chamberlain, Daladier, and all the other wise man that let WW2 become what it did were all inspired by true international peace, right?
The fact that Bush considers Putin a “dear friend” is not a plus and it has been proved over and over again. We need a guy that make the crazies in the world concerned. Sometimes it takes a crazy guy to be scary enough.
To make sure these people understand what we are talking about here, I’d suggest that McCain adopts a campaign mascot:

Can you imagine Hillary trying to debate McCain on experience? I just can’t wait…
