That is what former Russian spy Sergei Tretyakov says. He was at NPR yesterday promoting the book Comrade J, which is based on his life. You can listen to the whole interview here.
I am tempted to read the book. The interview was very interesting, especially the parts where he describes how Russians would use publicly available documents in their research, and how our harmless lefties in Canada helped him in his quest to destroy the great Satan.
According to him, this stuff still goes on. Russia is arming Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas. They still much weaker than before but Americans are way too naïve to think that we are now allies.
There might be exaggerations here and there of course, but it is a good reminder of how ruthless the so called “opposing powers” are. I wish some of our anti-American literati would remember this more often.
