Bloggers who
- Refer to their blogs in third person
- Think they are doing some kind of social work by writing about certain subjects
- Keep making references to their number of readers (either in pompous or self-deprecating/satirical ways)
- Use phrases like “This is my home and I do what I want to” (tip: you just do it; you don’t need to explain yourself. And a blog is NOT a home)
- Think people who send comments or link to their blog are automatically his friends
And finally, the most annoying and silly pet peeve about bloggers:
- People who think all blogs are just the same
Listen, just because you can quote Becker and Posner doesn’t mean you have turned into an economist. It might be amusing to read what so and so have to say about a subject, but at the end your opinion only matters as far as your life goes. Blogs are just a tool. If you are not a qualified professional in the area you write about, you are NOT going to change the world by writing a post.
Just enjoy yourself and stop with the delusions of grandeur.
I you think soccer is the only sport where upsets and miracle stories happen, you should read about the Redskins. They got the whole package in 2007: death of a star player, last second losses, many injuries including their starter quarterback, personal problems for the coach, it goes on and on.
Still, they made a great run on the final 4 games and moved to the playoffs. Only the 4th team ever to go from 5-7 to 9-7 wildcard spot.
The part that impresses me the most is about Todd Collins. Here is a guy who hasn’t started a game in 10 years, and even before that was always considered a backup guy. Now in the middle of a great crisis he comes back and wins 4 games against 4 very good teams. You can see that he worked very hard during all this time, and never doubted that his chance would come up.
I can’t help but hope that the Skins go further, even if now they have to beat my new team, the Seahawks.
The Redskins are all about perseverance. I love it.
